Which symbology when

EAN/UPC retail codes are issued through GS1 member organisations — generate them only for prefixes you actually own. Internal SKU barcodes (CODE128) need no registration.

Print guidance

Print at 100% scale (“actual size”) — shrinking narrows the bars and breaks scanners. Keep label width at or above ~40 mm where possible, leave blank quiet zones on both sides of the bars, and use medium-high print density on thermal label stock.

Frequently asked

Which symbology for internal SKUs?

Use CODE128 for your own SKU scheme — it encodes letters, digits and common symbols at high density. EAN-13 and UPC-A are retail checkout codes that require a GS1 company prefix; don't mix them with internal SKUs.

Do I enter 12 or 13 digits for EAN-13?

Enter 12 digits and the tool computes the 13th check digit for you; entering all 13 also works and the last digit is validated. UPC-A works the same way with 11 or 12 digits. Invalid rows are flagged and skipped.

The printed barcode won't scan — why?

The three usual causes: not enough quiet zone (blank margin) around the bars, print density set too low, or bars squeezed too thin on a small label. Keep labels at least ~40 mm wide, raise print density and export at 100% scale.

How many codes per batch?

Up to roughly 500 per batch stays snappy since every code renders in your browser; larger lists work but previews get slower — split them up. The PDF export itself has no hard cap.

Can labels show the product name and price?

Yes. Write each line as "SKU,name, price" (name and price optional). The label lays them out automatically; currency symbols are printed as-is and not validated.
