Thailand plug types & voltage — adapters, 100–240V devices and local sockets
Thailand's official standards are Type C and the national Type O (TIS 166-2549), but virtually every socket sold is a hybrid accepting A, B, C and O. Mains is 230 V, 50 Hz.
Sockets & supply
Hybrid sockets accept flat pins, Euro round pins and Thai Type O. E/F plugs can be forced in but get no earth and expose live pins when half-out — banned since 2008, do not force them.
From China — your plugs vs local sockets
On the ground
Thailand's official standards are Type C and the national Type O (TIS 166-2549), but virtually every socket sold is a hybrid accepting A, B, C and O. Mains is 230 V, 50 Hz.
Voltage is a uniform 230 V nationwide — older references still say 220 V, but the nominal figure has been harmonised to 230 V.
What to pack
Chinese flat-pin and Euro round-pin plugs fit the hybrid sockets directly; only the angled Type I needs an adapter. Wide-voltage chargers work straight away — no transformer.
Type E/F plugs can be forced into Thai hybrid sockets but get no earth, and their uninsulated pins stay live while half-out — Thailand banned E/F appliances in 2008. Never force an E/F plug in.
Wide-voltage (INPUT 100–240V) chargers and power bricks work anywhere; single-voltage heating appliances (hairdryers, kettles) need a transformer when voltages differ. Country data cannot certify a device — check the nameplate.
